Long-term keyword

In this post, I will tell you, why a long-tail keyword is the most important thing for your digital marketing strategy and how it will help your business/blog to bring in better conversions and lower bounce rate.

In a general perspective, a keyword is nothing but a word, which has got a great significance. But If we talk from a website owner’s perspective. What does the keyword mean?

It’s just a phrase, for which a website owner would like to rank their website on the number 1 on search engines (ex:- Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex…).

Today, everyone wants to rank on the first page of Google SERP. That’s why everyone cannot rank Number 1. It’s pretty logical, right?

That’s where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes into play. Actually, we haven’t seen much about What is a keyword? Let’s see that from a different perspective now.

What is a keyword?

A keyword doesn’t need to be a single word. For example, when a user searches for ‘Web Development’, he may be expecting a search engine to display various web development agencies.

From where he can build a website for their online business, So there are multiple things that are covered in this broad keyword ‘Web development ’.

What is a Long-Tail keyword?

When the length of the keyword will shorter, then the range will be broader. In other words, we can say that shorter keywords are searched millions of times per month on Google.

Now take a look into the next example. ‘Web Development Company in Delhi’. This is the somewhat lengthy or long-tail keyword, but too specific or narrow in terms of ‘meaning’.

Because this lengthy keyword tells a search engine that the user needs ‘Web Development Company in Delhi’ and not in Bangalore or not for some other locations or not anything like that.

Why Should You Choose Long-Tail Keywords

Now take a look at very long-tail or very specific keywords. ‘WordPress Web Development Company in Delhi’. This keyword is too specific or very narrow in terms of targeting the specific category of the audience.

Now you can understand the concept. When you search for ‘Web Development’,
you will get a lot of unrelated results compared to when you search for ‘Web Development Company in Delhi’.

Now you should have got a question, why you need to target for broad or long-tail keywords on your website. Most SEO experts recommend targeting long tail keywords only and I am no exception. I also do recommend the same thing.

Let’s assume this scenario, a user, who needs a WordPress website for his business, searches for ‘Web development’ on Google. On the other hand, you write about ‘how
to design WordPress website’.

Approx 45% of the users click on the first search result  In such a case if the user searches for just ‘WordPress Website’ and if your website appears in the first search result, then he might click on the search result and come to your website but he will bounce back immediately.

After that, the user will start to modify his search keyword to a long-tail keyword. Because he needs a WordPress development company in Delhi for his website. Whereas you are teaching, how to design such.

What you’re providing on your website is a long but useful process. But he needs a development company and an instant solution. For the term ‘Web Development’ some relevant website may appear on the 3rd page of the Google search.

Whereas, when the user searches for ‘Wordpress Web Development Company in Delhi’, that particular website may come to the first search result and when that search user enters to that website, he would get what he wanted.

So, the bounce rate will be low and the time spent by the user on that website will be high. He may even look for multiple services offered by that website. He may get a lot of choices, so he may look into multiple services on the site and purchase the one, which he likes at last.

It’s a win-win situation for both the search user and that website’s owner. That is the reason, why you should target long-tail or very specific keywords on your website to get the most converting organic traffic.

Conclusion

Keyword research seems that it is for SEO only. This is, in fact, the foundation of your entire digital marketing strategy.

You will need to focus on the long-term keywords to rank on the first page and generate more revenue. Even though your company is focusing on digital marketing strategy this year, researching effectively on long-tail keyword trends is key to winning.
